Frogmore House

Frogmore house is basically a guest house on the Windsor estate. It is only open to the public a handful of days every year because it is mostly used for guest of the queen. I went with my friend Rachael to visit it because it also happens to be where Victoria and Albert are buried.

Only Queen Victoria and Price Albert are buried inside this mausoleum, but there are other royal family members buried in the grounds surrounding it.  There was a little map to show who was buried where.
These two stones in the photo below mark where King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson are buried.

There is Frogmore House off in the distance.
This little mausoleum is where Queen Victoria's mother is buried. It is perched on top of a little hill on a little island in this small lake.
The grounds were really beautiful, and the highlight of the tour.
The house itself was interesting, but it is not the same caliber as some other home I have visited. There was a renovation of the house and they discovered these paintings, where someone had chipped away the faces on many of the subjects. I took these two photos before I was told no photography was allowed.
This house had a lot of beautiful paintings of the royal family, but honestly a lot of rooms just had random stuff. It was a bit like they used this house as a refuge for things that were unwanted but could not be gotten rid of.
You can't go inside the mausoleum because there is a lot of restoration that needs to take place since, and I quote,'the damp got it'. Hopefully once it is decided who pays for these works they will able to carry them out and open again to the public. The memorials inside are supposed to be stunning.
So, Frogmore house is worth visiting but mostly for the grounds and seeing the mausoleum where Victoria and Albert are buried. It is only open to the public in September so plan now if you want to go next year.
